- Having initially followed his Father into the licensed trade Daniel (1)
CANVIN worked for a time on the canals as a boatman; a life that was to be taken
up by his Sons George (7) CANVIN, James (1) CANVIN and Mathew Henry CANVIN. However,
after only a short time on the canals, Daniel (1) CANVIN returned to the licensed
trade (in the 1872 Buckinghamshire Census of Beer & Public Houses he was recorded
as the owner of The Chequers, Leckhampstead with Thomas Underwood as the tenant)
before turning his hand to farming of which as the 1891 Census shows by the Farmer's
Wife & Children recorded he was very proud.
